About Village Voices

Village Voices was formed in 1989 in Unionville, to provide fellowship for its members, and produce a high standard of achievement in all types of Choral Music: classical, sacred and secular.

The choir has been under the direction of Joan Andrews since the fall of 1999. Winter and spring programs are presented each year. Our two major annual concerts during the past three years have included music from Handel’s Messiah, Vivaldi’s Gloria, traditional Canadian folk songs as well as works by contemporary Canadian composers and choruses from well-known operas and operettas.

The choir continues to expand its repertoire and raise its artistic level through vocal workshops and inclusion in its programs of professional guest soloists and instrumentalists. While building its audience base by performing in various venues in the Markham community as well as in the surrounding area, the choir continues to honour its important mandate of entertaining at seniors’ homes and at Participation House.

Village Voices is a non-auditioned, not-for-profit, adult mixed voice community choir, which rehearses in Unionville, drawing choristers from much of York Region as well as from the north end of Toronto. The choir is a member of Choirs Ontario, SOCAN and the Markham Arts Council.
